Numa festividade digna para o esporte, a Sedel realizou, ontem, a cerimônia de abertura da 39ª edição dos Jogos Escolares Maranhenses (JEMs). O evento ocorreu no Ginásio Castelinho e contou com a participação de diversas autoridades, entre as quais o secretário de Estado do Esporte e Lazer, Joaquim Haickel, além de lideranças políticas e comunitárias, estudantes/atletas e representantes de federações esportivas do Maranhão.
Cerca de três mil estudantes/atletas participaram do desfile das delegações da categoria infantil. Os alunos entraram em quadra uniformizados representando suas respectivas escolas e municípios. Os professores José Pinheiro Silva, participante de todas as edições dos JEMs, e Antonio Maria Menezes, o professor Dimas, pioneiro no esporte maranhense, foram homenageados durante a cerimônia. Os dois educadores iniciaram o revezamento da tocha olímpica que percorreu toda a extensão da quadra do Ginásio Castelinho.
A atleta Ana Beatriz Machado, campeã brasileira infantil de natação, acendeu a pira olímpica na abertura da 39ª edição dos JEMs. “É gratificante ser escolhida entre outros tantos atletas importantes. É uma emoção muito grande estar participando da maior festa do esporte maranhense”, declarou a atleta de 13 anos.
O secretário de Esporte e Lazer, Joaquim Haickel, ressaltou que a competição deste ano está mais moderna e abrange mais municípios maranhenses, o que melhora a forma de disputa dos JEMs. “Antes, a competição durava 15 dias. Hoje, os JEMs têm duração de nove meses, porque não é disputado apenas na capital. Estamos conseguindo interiorizar os jogos para que estudantes de outras cidades também possam participar desta festa do esporte maranhense. Em 2011, temos um JEMs mais moderno e ainda queremos melhorá-lo. No ano que vem, quando a competição chegará à 40ª edição, será muito melhor”, declarou Haickel.
Para o secretário-adjunto de Projetos Especiais da Sedel, Winglitton Barros, o China, os Jogos Escolares Maranhenses de 2011 é um marco para o crescimento do esporte no estado. “Os JEMs deste ano significam a reconstrução do esporte maranhense. Nosso objetivo é sempre fazer um JEMs melhor. E, tenho certeza, que a Secretaria de Esporte e Lazer fará a cada ano uma competição mais eficiente em todos os aspectos”, disse.
A partir deste ano, os atletas vencedores receberão troféus que homenagearão personalidades do esporte, como os professores Luís Pinho Rodrigues e Raimundo Figueiredo. Outra novidade é a criação do hino oficial dos jogos, que já está disponível no site da Sedel (www.esporteelazer.ma.gov.br).
